OUR PATRON CANONIZED
On July 3, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI signed two decrees promulgating the heroic virtues of Nuno and recognizing the authenticity of a miracle (the healing of a blind woman in Portugal). By these acts, the Holy Father formally canonized Saint Friar Nuno de Santa Maria Alvarez Pereira. The public celebration of his canonization took place on April 26,2009. His feast has been fixed universally in the Roman Calendar as November 6th. Click HERE to see photos from the canonization

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ORPHANAGE COMPLETE
On April 30, 2007, (Children's' Day in Mexico) Construction began in
Agua Prieta, Sonora of our new orphanage, Mary Queen of Angels
House. $650,000 was raised to build our orphanage and the ribbon
cutting ceremony took place on December 19, 2009. Now we much
furnish it with beds, desks, tables, appliances, etc. For more

MISSION OFFICES OPENED IN TUCSON
AND AGUA PRIETA
In April 2006, the Blessed Nuno Society established mission
offices in Tucson, Arizona and an office for our Mexican
affiliate in Agua Prieta, Sonora. This expansion allows us to
better serve our various projects along the Mexican border.
Our home office remains in the Diocese of Duluth, Minnesota.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DINNER MEETING AND MASS
FOR OUR DECEASED MEMBERS WAS HELD ON
NOVEMBER 4
The annual Membership Meeting was held at St. Rose
Church in Proctor, Minnesota on Wednesday, November 4.
The election of Directors and delivery of annual reports took
place at this meeting. Michael Morrissey and Stephan
Cismowski were elected for three year terms to the Board. A
Mass for the souls of all of our deceased members was be
celebrated by Father Joel Hastings at
St. Rose Church immediately prior to the Membership
Meeting. A Mass for our deceased members was also
celebrated on November 6 at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish
in Tucson, Arizona .

At the end of the day, children sifted through
the dirt and pick-up every pinto bean and
every grain of rice that had spilled on the
ground, in order to take home just a little more
to eat.
ANNUAL BOARD ROSARY FOR THE ORPHANS
Each year during the month of May, our Board of Directors gathers
with some other organization such as a school, KC Council,
campus ministry, or assisted living center to pray the rosary for the
children served by the projects of the Blessed Nuno Society. Our
2009 Rosary was held at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor,
Minnesota on Wednesday, May 6 following the 9:10a.m. Mass.
ANNUAL RESPECT LIFE MASSES CELEBRATED
Each year in January, we celebrate our annual Respect Life
Mass. This year Our Respect Life Mass in the Diocese of
Duluth was celebrated on Friday, January 22 at St. Rose
Parish in Proctor, Minnesota, by Father Joel Hastings. Mass
for this same intention was also celebrated on January18 at
Our Mother of Sorrows in Tucson, Arizona.
APRIL MASS FOR OUR MEMBERS CELEBRATED
In April we celebrate our Annual Masses for the members of
the Blessed Nuno Society. The dates and locations of our
2010 Masses will be announced here soon.
MASS CELEBRATED FOR OUR PRIESTS AND DEACONS
Our 16th Annual Mass celebrated for our priest and deacon
members was celebrated at noon at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church
in Duluth, Minnesota on July 10, 2009. A Mass for the same
intention was also celebrated at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in
Tucson, Arizona at 8:30 am on Wednesday, July 15.

NEW TWIN CITIES CHAPTER FORMED
On April 17, 2009, the Board of Directors formally chartered a
Chapter of the Blessed Nuno Society which will be located in the
Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis. Stephan Cismowski has
been named Acting President of the Chapter.

the Holy Constable Saint Friar Nuno of Saint
Mary Alvares Pereira
REST IN PEACE
Ann Morrissey, member of the Society's
Mission Committee and wife of our Board
member and former Treasurer, Mike
Morrissey, died February 11, 2010 after a
long battle with diabetes. Ann will be
remembered for her countless hours of
prayer for our orphans at the Holy
Innocents Perpetual Adoration Chapel in
Duluth. May God grant her eternal rest.

Our former Respect Life Advisor,
Monsignor Patrick McDowell, died at
age 81 on Tuesday, May 19 in Duluth,
Minnesota. Monsignor Pat will be
remembered as an outstanding
advocate for the poor, for his Helping
Hands ministry, his devotion to the
Sacraments, and his kind and gentle
approach to Respect for Life issues.
He worked closely with the Society to
establish the Holy Innocents Perpetual
Adoration Chapel in Duluth.

BLESSED NUNO SOCIETY ISSUES EMERGENCY GRANTS FOR HAITI On January 22, the Board of Directors authorized three grants from the Society's Emergency Relief Fund to assist the relief efforts in Haiti. Grants were issued to Catholic Relief Services Hope Village Orphanage and Joan Martin Haiti Projects
